Egress window well basics for Knoxville, TN homeowners

Basement bedrooms and living spaces often need an emergency escape and rescue opening. A window well cover on an egress opening should be removable or operable from inside without keys, tools, or special knowledge — and shouldn’t trap someone trying to exit. Exact code language varies by jurisdiction; always confirm with your local building department.

We’re Knoxville Window Well Covers: we explain options in plain language and help you choose covers that respect egress when that applies. This page is education, not legal or engineering advice. Request a Free Estimate and tell us if the window is an escape opening.
